Moses challenged Israel to choose to obey God and therefore continue to experience His blessings. The laws were to be read to the whole assembly so that everyone (including the children), could hear them. Every seven years, the entire nation would gather together and listen as the priest read the Law to them.

There were no books, bibles, internet, magazines or newspapers in those days, so the children of Israel had to rely on word-of-mouth and retentive memory. Memorization was vitally important, for if everyone knew the Law, ignorance would be no excuse for breaking it!

Moses had a very close relationship with God, yet even this great man was not allowed to enter the Promised Land because he disobeyed God. No matter how good we are, or how much we have done for God, every person will be disciplined for their disobedience. When you experience the ‘sting’ of God’s discipline, do what Moses did. Do not turn away in anger, embarrassment, or resentment. Instead turn toward God with love, openness, and a desire to do better.

To fulfil God’s purpose and will in our lives, we need the content and substance of His Word in our hearts. For the Hebrews, this process began in childhood. Likewise, likewise followers of Jesus Christ, should make it their priority to teach their children the Bible.

“I call Heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” (Deuteronomy 30 v 19)

God does not force His will on anyone. He lets us decide whether to follow Him or reject Him. This decision, is a life-or-death matter. God wants us to realize this, for He would like us all to choose life.

The nation of Israel had entered into a covenant with God, and Moses instructed them to hear, learn and keep His Commandments, Laws and Statutes. Moses threefold instruction to the Israelites is excellent advice for everybody.

1.      Hear – is absorbing and accepting information about God.

2.      Learn – is understanding the Bible’s deeper meaning, revelations and implications.

3.      Keep – is putting the Bible into action, all that we have learned and understood.

All three parts are essential to a growing obedient relationship with God. Always remember obedience and disobedience carry inevitable consequences.

Judgment Day Is Coming!

“I rather bear the pain of discipline, rather than the pain of regret”

“Obedience, is better than sacrifice”

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter. Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into Judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12 v 13-14)
