Godly Habits Concerning Food

“He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate bringing forth food from the earth.” (Psalm 104 v 14)

“And God said, See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be food.” (Genesis 1 v 29)

Everything God had given us, was perfectly designed to give us long life and good health. Food was meant to provide life and health to our bodies. We should therefore only consume what our body requires without excess. Fasting is highly recommended for spiritual reasons, but also has physical benefits in helping to cleanse our digestive system. Good advice includes eating lots of fruits and vegetables.

Avoid eating too much processed and take-away foods. With a change in lifestyle, many people today spend very little time cooking their own meals. A little exercise each day, will help your circulatory system.

Ways To Change Your Habits:-

1.      Learn the nutritional value of foods, plants, fruits, meat and seeds.

2.      Grow your own vegetables and fruits.

3.      Learn and develop best farming and gardening practices.

4.      Research the origins of the food you buy.

5.      Learn about the impact of food additives, preservatives and other ingredients used in food production.

6.      Learn about the impact which technology has on industrial food production.

7.      Prepare your own food.

8.      Reduce meat consumption.

9.      God commanded the Israelites not eat certain animals (read Leviticus chapter 11).

Home training is very essential in propagating the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Bible says whatever believers do, must be done to the glory of God. One thing that reflects whether you have been well trained or not, is in the way that you eat at home and in public.

Say a prayer of thanksgiving to God and bless the meal, before you start eating.

The person who cuts a chunk of eba or pounded yam as large as the head of a little child, and tries to swallow it at once, lacks home training. If you visit a home, the residents should set the table and invite you to join them, or at least insist that you eat/drink something. No matter how hungry you may be, never consume all the food; always leave some remnants in the plate.

When some individuals eat, you may see the food in their mouth. That is bad manners. Likewise, when some people chew their food, you would think they are an animal by the sounds they make. You should be in silent mode while chewing.

Some people may not know how to eat with cutlery. This skill may be required when eating in public. Similarly, some people may not know how to eat with their hands. This skill may be required when eating in private. Be comfortable and confident and conduct yourself always in the love of Jesus Christ. Always compliment the host by saying ‘I ENJOYED YOUR MEAL AND HOSPITALITY. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU’
