Make And Use Time Wisely

"Everything is permissible for me - but not everything is beneficial" (1 Corinthians 6 v 12)

Lately, life has me thinking about time. Right now we are fast approaching the end of this age according to scripture. Maybe you can relate to a hectic schedule in some way. Today, there are many people whom feel overwhelmed with all that life consists of. For others, maybe it's not so much a feeling of being overwhelmed as much as it is a feeling of going through the motions of life, but not getting the results that you want.

If you put in long hours at work, but do not get that promotion, it can lead to frustration. If you are spending hours praying and reading/ studying the Bible, but you still easily lose your temper, it can be discouraging. If you take your children to different activities, but you realize they are not enjoying and you are only wasting energy and precious time, it can seem pointless. The fact remains, time is the most precious commodity we all have. Once used, we have less of it.

Let's face i, we are all busy. So the question isn't really "Are You Busy?" The question is "Are You Productive?" The question isn't, "Can I Have More Hours In The Day?" The question is, "Am I Spending The Twenty-Four Hours That I Have Wisely Each Day?"

"For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it." (Luke 14 v 28)

This is great wisdom from the mouth of Jesus Christ! You must learn to do this about every activity you will be engaged in. Count the cost. That simply means that you determine ahead of time the cost and the benefit. There are some people who view playing sports as a complete waste of time, and while they are entitled to their opinion, I happen to disagree. From my own experience, I have found that there are numerous valuable characteristics a child or adult can learn from playing on a team. They will develop teamwork, discipline, commitment - not to mention exercise, which can lead to a healthier way of life. So, from my perspective, there is value in playing team sports.

However, each one of us will have to weigh what it will cost (especially from a time perspective) to allow that to happen, without being worn out and burnt out! For some individuals it may not be sports. Maybe it's piano lessons, boy scouts, school activities, work activities or even church meetings. All of these represent time during the week. With each commitment must come a level of cost versus benefit analysis. What is the benefit? What is the cost?
