Why Is The Virgin Birth Important (1)

“I see Him, but not now. I behold Him, but not near. A star shall come out of Jacob. A Scepter shall rise out of Israel.......” (Numbers 24 v 17)

The virgin’s name is Mary.

Why is the virgin birth important to the Christian faith? Jesus Christ (The Son of God) had to be free from the sinful nature passed on to all other human beings by Adam. Jesus fulfilled His purpose in two important accomplishments. Firstly. Because he was born of a woman, he was a human being. Secondly because Jesus Christ was the Son of God, he was born without any trace of human sin. Therefore he was both fully human and fully divine.

The virgin birth is an underlying assumption of everything the Bible says about Jesus. To disregard the virgin birth, is to reject Christ’s deity, the accuracy and authority of scripture, and a host of other related doctrines that are the central theme of the Christian faith. No subject is more important than the virgin birth, to our understanding of who Jesus Christ is.

If we deny Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, then we have denied the very essence of Christianity.
